Every year, we look at the one-way RV specials offered by Fraserway RV, and every year, we’re tempted. These deals are such a great way to explore Canada as it's inexpensive, flexible, and ideal for people like us who love camping, nature, and the freedom of the open road.

We don’t mind long drives. We actually enjoy them, especially when we don’t have to set up tents, carry camping gear, or worry about the weather. With an RV, everything is right there with you. You can stop when you want, cook a meal with a view, and sleep surrounded by nature.

Here’s how our one-way RV adventures have unfolded over the years.

Whistler to Banff (2016) – Our First One-Way Adventure

My husband had won a trip from work to Whistler, and we decided to turn it into an adventure and we added driving a one-way special RV to Banff afterwards. It was our first time doing this kind of trip, and we only had about 3–5 days. We didn’t take that many pictures back then, but the memories are still vivid.

It was a perfect introduction to RVing with beautiful BC landscapes, cozy campgrounds, and that sense of freedom you only get on the road. We flew back from Calgary, already dreaming of doing it again someday.

Toronto to Halifax (2017) – East Coast Charm

The following year, we took the train to Toronto and picked up a new 30’ RV. It felt huge! Luckily, my husband’s calm driving made it all feel safe and fun.

Our first goal: see the Flowerpot Rocks at the Bay of Fundy. We arrived just in time for low tide, walked down among the formations, and watched as the tide rushed back in. I was completely in awe.

We camped at Blomidon Provincial Park, reached by a foggy, steep road that felt almost spooky, the hikes and views were worth it. Along the way, we stopped in Shediac for a gluten-free lobster roll and the best fries (we still stop there every time we’re nearby because I’m a potato lover through and through).

We even slept our first night at a Walmart in Moncton. It might not sound glamorous, but being able to grab groceries, cook dinner in your RV, and rest before hitting the road again, it’s part of the RV charm.

Toronto to Vancouver (2020) – 16 Days Across Canada

After skipping a couple of years, we were ready for another big adventure and this time we did from Toronto to Vancouver in an another new A30 RV. We didn’t plan much; it was a spontaneous decision. No campground reservations, just the open road.

We camped at Agawa Bay, where we blew up our kayak and paddled in crystal-clear water as the sun set, it was one of those “wow” moments. We ran out of gas near Marathon (literally 0 km left!) and stretched our legs at Aguasabon Falls.

We slept in a few Walmarts along the way even if it's always a bit nerve-wracking, but you quickly realize many others do the same. When we finally reached BC, we stayed in Princeton, then took the ferry to Vancouver Island.

On the island, we spent one night at McDonald Campground, wandered Butchart Gardens, and then made our way toward Sooke and Pacific Rim National Park. That drive was winding, remote, and with no Wi-Fi, it was nerve-wracking with a 30-foot RV, but worth every minute. We hiked rainforests, watched the wild Pacific surf in Tofino, and braved the cold ocean without wetsuits (I was determined!).

We even swam at Sproat Lake before taking the ferry back, one last refreshing stop before returning the RV.

The Return Trip – Vancouver to Toronto (Still 2020!)

Our return wasn’t planned. But as luck would have it, Fraserway asked if we wanted to drive another RV back to Toronto and we couldn’t say no!

We set off almost immediately, spending the night at a very lively Walmart in Squamish, then on to Pinantan Lake, where we kayaked until dark. From there, we explored waterfalls around Clearwater, including the stunning Spahats Falls and Helmcken Falls.

We hiked Pyramid Mountain Trail, spotted elk, deer, and even bears, and kayaked Edith Lake near Jasper. The views were breathtaking, got to see some glaciers, canyons, and rainbows, it's everything you hope to see in the Rockies.

In the Prairies, we found charm in unexpected places: a cute municipal campground in Elkhorn, and one magical moment at Sandbar Provincial Park, where an owl swooped silently nearby while we brought the garbage, a memory that still gives me chills (the good kind).

Why We Love One-Way RV Specials

These trips have given us so much. The freedom to go at our own pace is awesome and we get to discover hidden gems, and wake up somewhere new every morning.

With Fraserway RV’s one-way specials, you can try RVing without the cost of a round-trip rental. It’s perfect for adventurous couples or families who love nature and don’t mind long drives. Every year, we still check what routes are available and if the timing works, we go. We would love to do Whitehorse next.

It’s not just about getting from point A to B. It’s about the little things: cooking breakfast with a mountain view, chatting by the fire, or spotting wildlife at dusk. These moments remind us why we keep saying yes to the open road.
