🚆 Getting to Lake Como from Milan
We took the train from Milan to Lake Como and it’s honestly the best and easiest way to get there.
🎟️ Bought tickets at the station (self-service machines)
🕒 Quick and efficient
💶 Budget-friendly
👉 One thing to know: You’ll only see your “Binario” (platform) shortly before departure, so don’t panic if it’s not posted early.
👉 Important tip: There are 2 classes on the train, so make sure you’re sitting in the correct one.
We saw people try to argue after sitting in first class…it didn’t work 😅
🏨 Where We Stayed: Hilton Lake Como
The hotel is about 20–30 minutes from the train station:
🚌 Easy bus ride
🚕 Taxi = convenient but expensive
We chose Hilton Como for one main reason:👉 we wanted to enjoy the hotel itself

What we loved:
Heated outdoor pool (a bit cold in March though)
Rooftop restaurant with a view
Spa + gym
Bar for relaxed evenings
🌥️ Visiting Lake Como in March (Real Talk)
March is… not peak Como.
Windy
Cold
Moody skies
We had white caps on the lake for 2 days
Not exactly:
👗 Dress weather
🚤 Boat weather
🌊 Swimming weather
BUT…
👉 It has a different kind of charm:
Fewer crowds
Relaxed pace
Cozy atmosphere
We still:
Ate really well
Relaxed at the spa
Even got a tiny bit of sun by the pool
🍝 Where We Ate
The city center is where most restaurants are. It's nice for a passeggiata (walk).
We tried a couple of spots + gelato, but kept going back to:
👉 Quatar Pass : Close to the hotel and consistently good (like 4 nights)
⚠️ Things to Know (March Edition)
🌡️ Still chilly mid-March
🌼 Pollen = moderate to high
🌫️ Air quality wasn’t great during our stay
Let’s just say: Benadryl made an appearance 😅

Easy Day Trip to Lugano
From Como, you can easily hop on a train to Switzerland
Short ride
Beautiful scenery
Feels like a completely different vibe
👉 Don’t forget your passport/ID, even if checks are rare
🤍 Our Honest Thoughts
We’re happy we did Lake Como, but context matters. We had previously been to Lake Garda in September(with a car), and it was a very different experience.
👉 Como in March is more about:
Slowing down
Enjoying the hotel
Taking in the atmosphere
Would we come back just for Como again? Probably not.
But as part of a bigger trip?👉 Definitely worth it
