Experiencing Canada’s East Coast on a One-Way RV Adventure

After our first RV trip from Whistler to Banff in 2016, we were hooked. So when we saw another one-way special from Fraserway RV, this time from Toronto to Halifax, we didn’t hesitate. We love that these deals let you try RVing without the huge rental cost, you just bring your luggage and sense of adventure.
We took the train to Toronto and picked up our 30-foot RV. It was brand new and a little intimidating at first! But my husband’s calm driving quickly made me feel safe. It was time to hit the road and see where it would take us.
Focused and serious while driving, thrilled and joyful as a passenger!!!
Bay of Fundy : Flowerpot Rocks
Our first major stop was the Bay of Fundy, famous for the world’s highest tides. We made it to the Flowerpot Rocks perfectly timed with low tide, just enough time to walk around before the staff began rounding everyone back up as the water rushed in. Watching the ocean swallow the beach was incredible.
I remember feeling in awe. Nature’s timing was mesmerizing, and it set the tone for the rest of the trip.
First Walmart Overnight
That night, we tried something new, we slept at a Walmart in Moncton. I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about it, but it turned out surprisingly convenient. You just park, lock up, walk inside to grab groceries, and come back “home” to make supper.
It’s not the quietest sleep, but it’s safe, quick, practical, and saves money, especially when you’re covering long distances.
Shediac : Lobster Rolls and Fries
No trip to New Brunswick is complete without stopping in Shediac. I had the best gluten-free lobster roll there, and the fries… I don’t know what it is about them, but they were unforgettable. Every time we’re nearby, we have to go back. (I’m a potato lover, after all.)
Back there in 2021
Blomidon Provincial Park
We made our way to Blomidon Provincial Park, and that drive was something else, it was steep, foggy, and a little spooky! But once we arrived, the views were amazing. We hiked, relaxed, and enjoyed the peace and quiet of the campground.
It was one of those simple moments where you just sit, breathe, and take in the beauty around you.
Last stop : Halifax
We dropped off the RV before heading downtown Halifax, definitely not the easiest city to navigate with a 30-foot RV! But what a great feeling to have made it all the way from Toronto.
That trip was when we realized how much we loved the rhythm of RV life, waking up somewhere new, cooking your own food, stopping when you feel like it. Every stop has a story.
A Few RV Tips That Surprised Us
Before this trip, I had a few hesitations about RVing, especially the practical side of things. But once we were on the road, we realized it was much easier than expected.
Emptying the toilet isn’t that bad at all.
It’s quick, straightforward, and honestly less dramatic than people make it sound.
You don’t own the RV, so there’s very little maintenance.
That’s one of the best parts of one-way specials. Everything is already there, you just drive, enjoy, and drop it off at the end.
You really only need clothes and food.
The first thing we do after picking up the RV is grocery shopping. After that, it feels like home right away.
A few small extras make a difference.
Over the years, we’ve learned to bring a clothesline, and sometimes a small knife to cut wood for the fire (kindling). We once brought our blow-up kayak in a suitcase.
RVing doesn’t have to be complicated. For us, it’s about simplicity, flexibility, and waking up somewhere new every morning.
Looking Back
That East Coast trip was short but packed with beauty. From red cliffs and foggy coastlines to kind strangers and fresh seafood, it left us wanting more. We didn’t know it yet, but we’d be back behind the wheel of another one-way RV just a few years later, driving across the entire country.
